An International Day of Smiles

A few years ago I read a little book called Become Happy in Eight Minutes: The Search for Happiness in Eight Minutes, by Simon Reynolds. The book is somewhere in my house, but I can’t find it (or maybe I gave it away), so I can’t give you the exact words, but the author said that one way to feel happier is to smile, even if you don’t feel like smiling. Smiling will make you feel happier instantly. And if you smile at someone, that person will usually smile back, so they will feel happier. What a nice gift to give someone, even a stranger you pass on the street.

I ran across a website http://www.dayofsmiles.com/ that is advocating an International Day of Smiles. What a great idea, a day when we all go around smiling and making other people smile!

The International day of Smiles will be Saturday, December 9, 2006.

They say that they are doing this "in a spirit of goodwill to create a wonderful wave of smiles right around the world. Even more, this is an exciting adventure to make the world a better place for children and families in particular, at least for a day."

"A smile goes for miles!! So keep smiling all day."
